Projects

Can I track my projects?

Yes. You can turn any pattern into a project and track your progress, notes, and stitching over time.

Can I add a project without linking it to a pattern?

Yes. You can add a project without linking it to a pattern, for example if it is your own creation or by an unknown designer.

If you know the pattern the project is based on, adding it to the database helps stitchers find your project for inspiration and builds a more comprehensive pattern database.

Can I upload logged stitches via CSV?

Yes. Go to the project page in question and open the Stitch Log tab. There you can download a CSV template and upload your logged stitches in bulk.

Patterns

A pattern I want to stitch isn't in the database, can I add it?

Yes. You can add patterns to keep track of your collection, even if they are not already in the database.

I don't know the designer or creator of the pattern I want to add.

Share it in the Discord server and we will help track down the pattern's origin.

Can I add a pattern to my library that is not in the database?

No. Only patterns in the database can be added to your library.

What about AI-generated artwork or design in patterns?

Flosshaven aims to support transparency around patterns and creators. The goal is to make it easier for stitchers to understand where designs come from and who they are supporting while also having a complete pattern database. If a pattern is based on AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork or design, it should be clearly tagged.

What if AI was used to create other parts of the pattern than artwork or design?

Flosshaven does not tag patterns where AI was used in other parts of the designer's process, rather than to create the original artwork or design. Read more in our Artwork AI Usage tag guide.

How do I know which Artwork AI Usage tag to use?

We have four tags, and I realize it can be difficult choosing the correct one. AI use exists on a spectrum, and it is often impossible to draw precise lines between "generated" and "assisted." Rather than trying to measure exactly how much AI was involved, Flosshaven uses broad categories that are practical and understandable. The goal is transparency, not perfect precision.

Confirmed no AI: AI was not used to generate any part of the artwork or original design the pattern is based on.
AI generated: The artwork or original design was primarily generated using AI, even if it was later edited or cleaned up by a person.
AI assisted: AI contributed directly to the artwork or original design, while substantial creative work by a human also contributed to the final result.
Unknown: The AI usage of the artwork or design has not yet been confirmed.

AI can be used for many tasks during the design process. Examples such as brainstorming ideas, suggesting colour palettes, generating the chart, and creating mockups or preview images do not normally count as AI assisted because they do not directly create the artwork or original design. Can I filter out any patterns using AI generated or AI assisted tags?

Yes, in your Profile settings under Preferences, you can create a saved pattern filter that is automatically applied whenever you browse patterns.

If you prefer not to see patterns tagged as AI generated or AI assisted, you can exclude those tags from your default results.

Creators

Can I add my own patterns?

Yes. You can add your own patterns and create your own designer page with links back to your social media or website.

Can I limit who has access to edit my patterns?

Yes. Standard editing permissions on Flosshaven is for all registered users to be able to edit all pattern information. But if you have claimed your creator page, you can set permissions to control who can edit your patterns under My Profile > Manage my designs.

Pattern tags (categories, themes, and attributes) are still editable by all users.

Someone has already created my designer page. How can I claim it?

Because the database is community-driven, a user may have already added some of your patterns and created your designer page. Go to that designer page, select “Are you this designer?”, and follow the required steps. All claims and emails are saved in a log so ownership claims can be verified and abuse investigated if necessary.

My designer page has been claimed by someone who is not me.

Floss

How does floss tracking work?

You can add floss to your personal collection, track what you have, and mark what you need to buy. Floss can also be connected to projects.

A floss brand or type I want to add to my collection is missing from the database.

As most floss types require hundreds of entries, only an admin can add new floss to ensure data quality. You can suggest a new floss on the Floss page.

I have unknown floss in my collection. Can I add it to Flosshaven?

Yes. Go to your Floss Collection and select Manage Floss Collection. Under “Custom Floss,” you can add floss without a known brand or type and link it to your projects.

Fabric

Can I keep track of my fabric?

Yes. You can add fabric to your collection, including its brand, type, colourway, cuts, images, and tags, then connect it to projects.

How do I add fabric to my collection?

Go to My Profile > Fabric Collection > Add fabric. You can add fabric from database entries or add a manual entry if you do not know its brand or type. Follow the step-by-step fabric collection guide for detailed instructions.

How do I add fabric to the database?

If the fabric is not in the database, you can add it from the Add new fabric page. Read the fabric database guide for more information.

How do I link fabric to my project?

You can link a project to fabric in your collection or in the database, or enter the fabric information manually. See how to add fabric to a project for details.

If I have hand dyed a piece of fabric myself, how do I add it to my collection?

If you know the brand and fabric type, link it to the related database entry and select “hand dyed by me.” If you do not know the brand or type, add it as a manual entry and select “hand dyed by me.”

I have a piece of fabric but do not know its brand or make. How do I add it to my collection?

Add it as a manual entry without connecting it to a database entry. Follow the step-by-step fabric collection guide for detailed instructions.

I do not know the brand or make of the fabric I am using for my project.

That is no problem. You can add it as a manual entry in your collection and link your project to it, or simply enter the fabric information manually in your project.

Membership

What does Flosshaven Plus include?

Flosshaven Plus removes advertisements and lets you upload project images up to 50 MB and 4000 px, processed at higher JPEG quality. View the available options on the Plus page.

What is the difference between Plus and Supporter?

Supporter includes all Flosshaven Plus benefits at a higher monthly contribution. Supporters are also recognised with an Award badge on their profile.

How do I cancel my membership?

Open your account settings and choose Manage billing. Stripe's billing portal lets you cancel your membership and manage payment details.

When do my benefits end after I cancel?

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your paid billing period. You keep your membership benefits until that date.

What happens to my existing project images if I cancel?

Existing high-quality images remain unchanged and visible. Future uploads use the free image limits after your membership ends.

How do I update my payment method or view receipts?

Use Manage billing in account settings to open Stripe's billing portal, where you can update payment details and view invoices and receipts.

Are memberships refundable?

Memberships do not include a free trial and are not refundable except where required by law.

Will Plus and Supporter members see ads?

No. Both Plus and Supporter memberships provide ad-free browsing while the membership is active.

What is Flosshaven?

Flosshaven is a community-focused website for stitchers to track patterns, projects, floss and fabric in one place.

Is Flosshaven like Ravelry for cross stitch?

Flosshaven is inspired by Ravelry and the idea of a community pattern database and project tracker, but built specifically for cross stitch: patterns, floss, designers, projects, favorites, libraries, and stitch progress.

Is Flosshaven free to use?

Yes, Flosshaven is completely free to use.

Do I need an account?

You can browse without an account, but creating one lets you track projects, manage your floss, save favorites, view others' projects, and more.

Who is Flosshaven for?

Flosshaven is for anyone who enjoys cross stitching, whether you are just starting or have been stitching for years.

Is Flosshaven finished?

No, it is still being actively developed. New features and improvements are added regularly.

How can I give feedback or suggest features?
