This is part of my series of cross-stitched pride designs. 🩵🩷🤍 The shark in this piece is for trans icon, Blåhaj. I also wanted to include an organism that can change its sex, so I tucked a clownfish into the seaweed. While you may be aware that male clownfish can change their sex to become female, you may not know that they aren’t the only ones. Around 500 fish species change their sex as adults, including the bluehead wrasse, which can transition from female to male. For the flowers, I chose to depict roses. There is a phrase in the trans community that says "Give us our roses while we are still here." There are disproportionate rates of violence and murder against transgender people and roses are often associated with mourning the loss of someone close to us. They are a reminder to love and support the trans individuals in your life. The trans flag is also included as a thin banner, allowing for optional omission from the pattern if you feel unsafe to depict it. All patterns in my shop have been test stitched. The listing images are photographs of the completed piece.
