Take inspiration from nature's beauty, and stitch this stunning arrangement of bright, bold poppies. The Icelandic poppy is loved by many for its beautifully ruffled, almost crepe-paper like petals. And, combining showy blooms with delicate, rich green foliage, this charming flower doesn't only attract us stitchers, but it's also a haven for bees, birds and butterflies. Focusing on the flower heads themselves, this design perfectly evokes the charm of these plants. Capturing their details with clever shading techniques that give the piece a lovely 3D feel, each poppy is also layered, one in front of the other, to create a further sense of depth. You'll use a palette of just 15 thread shades, with eight of those in varying tones of red, orange and yellow. Skilfully working whole cross stitches, and a scattering of fractionals, it'll be such a delight to watch each frilled petal blossom into life. In fact, we think it's even more rewarding than growing the real thing - especially as these vibrant buds will stay in season all year round!
