One of my favorite holidays, although usually little considered, is Candlemas, which derives from the ancient Celtic Imbolc festival. Often still in the middle of winter we think about spring, and so we miss special and important moments that are worth remembering. Between midwinter and spring, in fact, there is the moment of the first timid awakening, symbolized by white candles, by fire, by the lactation of the sheep, therefore by the milk which is also white, and by the first little flower, the sweeter and more delicate: the snowdrop. Candlemas is the white holiday, the celebration of candlelight, of wool, of milk, of awakening which however is not yet seen, because it takes place in the womb of the earth. To honor this moment of the year, letting spring arrive when its time is right, not before, I dedicated one more of my patterns to Candlemas, a Magic Candlemas. In this set you can stitch the first light candles, the sheep with its thick curly wool, and of course the snowdrops. I wanted to represent them under a fine glass bell, to remember their delicacy, which seems fragile, yet is capable of piercing the ice to blossom in the sun.
