Entre Chien et Loup

The delightful French expression “entre chien et loup” describes so aptly that magical twilight time of day when the light is so deceptive that it becomes difficult to distinguish between a dog and a wolf; to tell whether it’s your friend or your foe approaching; or to be certain whether it’s the known or the unknown that awaits you on the path ahead. It means “the gloaming”, the threshold between hope and fear, nightfall, dusk – all of which sound so much nicer than “It’s nearly tea time, have you done your homework yet?” Take care, it’s beginning to get a bit dimpsey.
