Victorians Across America- Design No. 87 HISTORY: This house was built in 1898 by Charles Drain, Jr. and Anna Kent Drain, and is located at the corner of Main and Alta Vista Streets. The town of Drain was founded in 1872 when former state senator C.D. Drain, Sr. donated 60 acres to Douglas County. The family prospered enough from land investments and a general store to build what a local newspaper described as "the finest and most costly ever built in Douglas County." The home's plans were ordered form George Barber's pattern book Cottage Souveneirs No. 2 (Design #37). The Caslte now houses the Drain School District #22 offices. MODEL INFORMATION: The model was stitched on 14-count white Aida cloth, using two strands of floss for cross stitches and one strand of floss for backstitches unless otherwise noted in the Backstitch Notes.
