Designer Hi, I'm Rachel and I live in beautiful Tasmania, Australia. I do all sorts of crafts... but my greatest loves are drawing and cross stitch. I've been drawing all of my life - mostly for fun, but I've had a few small commissions over the years. Dad drew a lot of house plans when I was growing up, so I learned to draw with a lot of attention to detail :) Many of my childhood drawings were house plans! It was my Mum who taught me to cross stitch. I was only 8 years old and it stuck :) When I started designing patterns I drew them then converted them to cross stitch designs... now all of my 'drawing' is done on screen. My favourite thing in all the world is a few free hours and a blank screen in my cross stitch program! One of the most enduring goals I had as a child was to be an illustrator... but I was good at science and needed a stable income, so studied medical science (and later psychology) when I finished school and now work as a scientist. I indulged in my creative side on weekends and holidays... but in January 2016 I had this crazy new year's resolution to design a cross stitch pattern and see how I went selling it online. I'd bought a few patterns on Etsy, and it seemed the best place to set up a store. It was slow going at first, but to my delight lots of lovely people have bought and enjoyed stitching my designs :) I have even been fortunate enough to be featured in several cross stitch magazines! I dream of designing occasionally for a magazine one day :) My favourite designs are quirky and cute and fairly quick and easy to stitch. Most of the designs available at my local needlework stores are very complicated, and one of the bigger projects I started got abandoned for many years due to its complexity before I worked up the courage to complete it about ten years later! My aim in designing is to keep things simple and fun so that projects are enjoyed and finished, rather than abandoned :) I love designing things that are suitable for beginners... cross stitch is a wonderful hobby, and I want everyone to fall in love with it like I have :) Cross stitch and other crafts can be a great mindfulness activity too. Thanks for visiting me... if you have ideas for designs you would like to see in my shop I would love to hear from you :) I hope you like my work - if you do, please favourite my page and share links to my designs with any friends you think may be interested. Happy crafting!
